Bipromet modernizes pyrometallurgical process in Głogów II Smelter Plant
| 27.03.2008

On 27th February 2008 Bipromet, company seated in Katowice, accepted together with KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Div. Smelter Plant „Głogów” an order for execution of multi-branch technical documentation for investment entitled "Modernization of pyrometallurgy in Głogów II Smelter Plant".

Value of ordered works amounts 7.650.000 zł net.

The investment shall be implemented in strict relation with other project, being currently in course of execution by Bipromet named „Modernization of flash smelting furnace water system in Głogów II Smelter Plant” of net value 680.000 zł. Total amount of the design works made by Bipromet for the benefit of Smelter Plant „Głogów” concerning this investment is 8.330.000 zł net.
Modernization of pyrometallurgy process (processing of metallic ores in high temperatures) is targeted at application of the latest technological solutions, which will bring forth for example:

  • lifetime improvement of equipment operation and thus prolongation of inter-repair cycles,
  • limitation of manufacturing process factors having harmful impact on environment such as noise, emission of noxious substances, gases, etc.,
  • updating of inspection and process control system,
  • modernization of flash smelting furnace,
  • improvement of work conditions.

Copper pyrometallurgy process takes place in flash smelting furnace, in which dried copper concentrate is subject to chemical processes in temperature above 1200˚ C. The process final effect is copper of blister type.

„The investment related to modernization of pyrometallyrgy in Głogów II Smelter Plant is one of the biggest orders in design that Bipromet has implemented over the course of its business. Bipromet is practically the only Polish company that is able to undertake package accomplishment of such complex engineering project. It should be underlined that pyrometallyrgy modernization is the first step of copper industry transformation plan that is to be enacted in Poland in the coming several years’ time. Having in consideration investment programs of clients as well as profitable economic situation on the market I can assure that we will not suffer lack of work, which will be reflected in good incomes generated in the current year. Our stock of orders for this and coming years includes contracts of value over 100 mln zł, i.e. far more than in analogical period last year. In this respect it has been the best result for several years now.” – says Paweł Gaworzyński, Director responsible for Owner Supervision and Investor Relations in the company.

KGHM Polska Miedź for many years has been one of the Bipromet key clients. Copper Smelter „Głogów” is one of the cleanest copper smelters, presently setting ecological standards for great industrial complexes of his type throughout the world. For the sake of curiosity it may be mentioned that Bipromet is the major designer of all KGHM smelters.
